A Day in the Life of an ICU Nurse

I thought this was a very neat video about the daily nursing tasks that an ICU nurse performs. You can tell even by this short video clip that nursing is a team effort between doctors, respiratory therapists, you, and other nurses. The ICU is a great place to work because you are always learning. The nurse in this video, Rook, is precepting a new nurse. This is how the majority of orientations go to critical care areas. In my hospital, we orient newer nurses for two months on days and then three weeks on nights. I have precepted many new nurses and I've loved watching them develop their critical care skills. Enjoy the video!

As part of our new "A Day in the Life" series, we met Rook Rampersaud, RN, a nurse in our Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit. Rook allowed us to record her during a 12-hour shift to find out what life is really like for a nurse caring for some of our most critical patients.
