We see a large amount of patients admitted to the ICU for end stage liver failure from alcoholism.  Occasionally we will see someone admitted with the same symptoms, but they do not have a history of alcoholism or hepatitis. How do they end up in such horrible liver failure?

I think that the first line of this article is pretty profound if you think about it--"Alcohol causes nearly 4 percent of deaths worldwide." That is a pretty astounding fact! We have so many people in the ICU who are there simply because of their drinking habits. Alcoholics come in all walks and sizes, that's for sure!
