Body Mechanics

"Disabling back injury and back pain affects 38% of nursing staff" (citation).  It is very important to use proper body mechanics when moving or lifting patients.  Nurses are always complaining about back issues that they have developed from lifting patients over the years.  Be especially careful with patients that are overweight and cause additional strain on your body.  Get the help that you need so that you keep your body safe!  If you have hoyer lifts available, these are often very helpful in these situations.  This video shows a few of the common situations in which you move or transfer a patient.
