South Dakota State University RN to BSN




 

Basic Information: South Dakota State University is located in Brookings, South Dakota.  All didactic courses are offered online. Clinical courses are offered in the student's geographical area.  This program is meant for Registered Nurses wanting to obtain their BSN.  The majority of programs require that you have your associate's degree in nursing (ADN).

Program Length: There are 20 credits of nursing courses to complete the program.  The RN to BSN curriculum can be found here.  The length of the program depends on how many nursing courses and general education courses the students has left to complete.

Nursing Prerequisites: Pre-nursing courses  CHEM 106/106L Chemistry Survey & lab (or CHEM 112/112L Gen Chem I & lab) 3-4 credits  SOC 100 Introduction to Sociology or 150 Social Problems or 240 Sociology of Rural America, 3 credits  PSYC 101 General Psychology, 3 credits  BIOL 221/221L Human Anatomy & lab, 4 credits  HDFS 210 Lifespan Development, 3 credits  MICR 231/231L General Microbiology & lab, 3-4 credits  NUTR 315 Human Nutrition (must have eight credits of chemistry as pre-requisite), 3 credits  BIOL 325/325L Human Physiology & lab, 4 credits  HSC 443 Public Health Science, 3 credits  NURS 321 Pharmacology, 3 credits  NURS 119 First Semester Seminar, 2 credits General education courses  MATH 102 College Algebra or higher, 3 credits  ENGL 101 Composition I & ENGL 201 Composition II, 6 credits  SPCM 101 Fundamentals of Speech (or 215 Public Speaking or 222 Argumentation & Debate), 3 credits  System Graduation Requirement (SGR) #4: Humanities (two courses from this list), 6 credits  All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

Prior Classwork Information: Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Application Information: Nursing school applications are due on the following dates - Fall submission: May 1; Spring submission: October 1; and Summer admission: February 1 (if the submission date is a Saturday or Sunday, submission is the prior Friday, 5:00 PM.
