Second Degree Accelerated BSN

Basic Information: South Dakota State University is located in Brookings, South Dakota.  The second degree accelerated BSN is only offered at campuses in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen.  The Sioux Falls campus starts in August and the Aberdeen campus starts in January.  This program is for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in another field and have finished the basic requirements for their BSN.

Program Length: 12 months long.

Nursing Prerequisites: Foundational nursing courses • PSYC 101 General Psychology, 3 credits • SOC 100 Introduction to Sociology or 150 Social Problems or 240 Sociology of Rural America, 3 credits • PSYC 221 Lifespan Developmental Psychology or HDFS 210 Lifespan Development, 3 credits • CHEM 106/106L Chemistry Survey & lab (or CHEM 112/112L Gen Chem I & lab), 4 credits • CHEM 108/108L Organic & Biochemistry & lab (or CHEM 114/114L Gen Chem II & lab) , 4-5 credits • NUTR 315 Human Nutrition, 3 credits • BIOL 221/221L Anatomy & lab, 4 credits • BIOL 325/325L Physiology & lab, 4 credits • MICR 231/L Microbiology & lab, 4 credits General education courses • NURS 119 Seminar course or similar transfer course, 2 credits • ENGL 101 Composition I, 3 credits • ENGL 201 Composition II, 3 credits • MATH 102 College Algebra or higher, 3 credits • SPCM 101 Fundamentals of Speech (or 215 Public Speaking or 222 Argumentation & Debate), 3 credits • Humanities or Fine Arts, two courses equaling 6 credits . Students must have a prerequisite GPA of at least a 3.0 or higher.

Prior Classwork Information: Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 or higher.
