Second Degree Accelerated BSN
Basic Information: This program is for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in another field and have finished the basic requirements for their BSN. Approximately 175-200 applicants apply each year with only 64 being accepted.
Must Dos: Apply to the University of Utah and the College of Nursing. It is recommended to attend an information session before scheduling an appointment with an advisor.
Program Length: 16 months or four semesters straight through.
Prerequisites: Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Elementary Chemistry, Bio-organic Chemistry, Statistics, Nutrition, Human Development, Medical Microbiology, and Pathophysiology. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA in all prerequisite courses.
Prior Classwork Information: Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or better.
Application Information: The application to the College of Nursing can be found here. There is a $15 non-refundable application fee. This application includes personal information, your resume, three letters of recommendation, answers to short answer questions, and an electronic interview. The priority nursing application deadline is December 1st and the final deadline is January 15th of each year. The application to the University of Utah can be found here.
Admission Tests: For those students who do not speak English as their native language, you must score at least a 50 on the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) test.
