Second Degree Accelerated BSN




 

Basic Information: The University of Wyoming is located in Laramie, Wyoming.  This program is for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in another field and have finished the basic requirements for their BSN.  They title it the "BRAND" program - the Bachelors Reach for Accelerated Nursing Degree.

Must Dos: Students must apply to the University of Wyoming and to the College of Nursing. 

Program Length: This program is 15 months long starting at the beginning of one summer and ending at the end of the next summer.

Prerequisites: Courses include the following:

  • PHCY 3450 (Pathophysiology) - 4 credit hours
    Must be upper division (3000/4000 level). Lower division/Community College level courses do not satisfy this requirement. A syllabus is required for course evaluation.

  • KIN 2040 and KIN 2041 (Anatomy lecture and lab) - 4 credit hours

  • KIN/ZOO 3115 (Physiology) - 4 credit hours

  • MOLB 2021 (Medical Microbiology) - 4 credit hours

  • PSYC 1000 (General Psychology) - 3 credit hours

  • FCSC 1140 or FCSC 1141 (Nutrition) - 2-3 credit hours

Prior Classwork Information:

  1. Prerequisites must be met with C or better prior to entering each nursing course.

  2. A cumulative Nursing G.P.A. (NGPA) of 2.75 based on required courses is the minimum required for admission to the nursing major.

  3. Students must attain a 2.00 (C) or S in each nursing course, as well as a cumulative Nursing G.P.A. (NGPA) of 2.75 based on required courses to progress.

  4. Single prerequisite, requisite, core, or nursing major course may not be repeated more than once.*

  5. Only a total of four prerequisite, requisite, or core courses may be repeated.*

  6. Only a total of two nursing courses in the major may be repeated.*

  7. Students must have completed a baccalaureate degree or higher prior to starting the program with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Admission Tests:  If you are an international student you must complete the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam.
