University of Iowa BSN




 

Basic Information: The University of Iowa is located in Iowa City, Iowa. There are two BSN programs within the University of Iowa. The first is a program that is meant for entry to the nursing major from high school. The University of Iowa calls it the "Early Decision Program." Students can also apply for the nursing program after they have completed general education and prerequisite requirements. This program is called the "Competitive Admission Program."

Must Dos: Students must apply to the University of Iowa and to the College of Nursing.

Program Length: Four years with the last two years being nursing core classes.

Nursing Prerequisites: Four years high school English, one year Biology, one year Chemistry, one year Physics, four years of world languages (max of two languages), Algebra I/II, Geometry, and three years social studies.  In order to stay in the nursing program, students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA throughout all prerequisite courses. A list of university prerequisite classes can be found here. All prerequisite classes must be completed with a grade of a C or better. Prerequisite college classes are taken into account when applying for the Competitive Admission Program.

Prior Classwork Information: Students must have at least a 3.8 cumulative high school GPA or at least a 3.0 prerequisite college GPA.

Application Information: Application to the College of Nursing is due by January 1st for Early Decision Program and April 1st for Competitive Admission Program.

Admission Tests: Students must have a minimum 28 ACT Composite score and minimum 25 ACT Science Reasoning score.
