University of New Mexico BSN
Basic Information: The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This program is set up for the entry-level freshman wishing to gain their BSN or transfer students who have completed their general education requirements. Preference is given to New Mexico residents for admission.
Must Dos: Students must finish prerequisite classes, apply to the University of New Mexico, send transcripts, and submit nursing school application.
Program Length: Five semesters for a total of 20 months. These classes are year-round and go straight through the summer.
Nursing Prerequisites: Courses include English Composition I/II, Biology, two Humanities classes, Psychology, College Algebra, Chemistry with Lab, Statistics, Nutrition, Growth & Development, Microbiology with Lab, Anatomy & Physiology I/II with Lab, Pathophysiology I/II, Social/Behavioral Science, Introduction to Nursing Concepts, Principles of Nursing Practice, and Evidence-Based Practice. Prior Classwork Information: Must complete all freshman and sophomore classes with a C or better by the beginning of Level 1 nursing classes in semester three. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.
Application Information: There is a non-refundable application fee of $60 fee for the School of Nursing. The application deadline September 15th for spring admission and February 15th for fall admission. Detailed information about the application process can be found here. Admission Tests: Students must take the HESI A2 Exam in order to enter the program. What is the HESI Exam? Subjects include grammar, reading comprehension, vocab, biology, chemistry, and math. You must sign up before to reserve your seat. It costs $55 and the last day to take it. You can take the test twice per twelve month period and they will use the highest score. The minimum acceptable score is 75%.
