University of New Mexico BSN




 

Basic Information: The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  This program is set up for the entry-level freshman wishing to gain their BSN or transfer students who have completed their general education requirements.  Preference is given to New Mexico residents for admission. There are also programs set up in conjunction with Central New Mexico Community College, New Mexico Junior College, San Juan College, and Santa Fe Community College in which students can complete both their RN license and BSN concurrently.  

Must Dos:  Students must finish prerequisite classes, apply to the University of New Mexico,  and submit nursing school application.  

Program Length:  Five semesters for a total of 20 months.  These classes are year-round and go straight through the summer.

Nursing Prerequisites: These courses are taken during the first three semesters at the University of New Mexico.  They include English Composition I/II, Biology with Lab, a Humanities course, a Foreign Language course, Psychology, Chemistry with Lab, Statistics, Nutrition, Human Growth & Development, Microbiology with Lab, Anatomy & Physiology I/II with Lab, Pathophysiology, and a Social/Behavioral Science course. Prior Classwork Information:  Must complete all freshman and sophomore classes with a C or better by the beginning of Level 1 nursing classes in semester three. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.

Admission Tests: Students must take the HESI A2 Exam in order to enter the program.  You can take the test twice per twelve month period and they will use the highest score. The minimum acceptable score is 75%.
